Roman Anthropomorphic Figural Mounts
Lot No. 914

Circa 1st-3rd century AD. A mixed group of mounts in the form of human heads comprising: a cast copper-alloy heater-shaped plate, possibly an inkwell cover, with slots for a hinge and human bust modelled in the round emerging; a curved escutcheon with loop above a human bust with back-combed hair, triangular nose and deep-set eyes above a narrow rectangular-section plate with raised triangular panel; an elliptical seal-box with pelleted border surrounding a bulbous mask with almond-shaped eyes and three circular piercings on the reverse.
