Medieval Bronze Stag-Head Heraldic Mount
Lot No. 1261

A cast mount featuring the head and neck of the heraldic 'collared stag' device modelled in the round with broad brow, elliptical ears, three-tine antlers and gently recessed mouth and nostrils; above the eyes and on the brow a triangle of pointed decoration, with further pointing to the chest above a band of hatched texturing; hatching also applied to the front of the antlers and edges of the ears; the surface gilded, with only traces remaining; to the reverse of the casting the stub of a square-section attachment peg; on a custom-made stand.
