Roman Bronze Pouncing Lion Mount
Lot No. 238

Circa 2nd-3rd century AD. A cast bronze mount comprising a tridentine base and columnar trunk in the half-round with serrated top and incised leaf detailing; emerging from the trunk a pouncing lioness with broad extended forepaws and gaping mouth, fur detailing on the body and discoid eyes; the base with triangular recess to the rear.
