GREEK APULIAN BLACKWARE FIGURAL BELL KRATER
4TH CENTURY BC
6 1/4" (678 grams, 16 cm).

A red-figure ceramic bell krater with pedestal base, bell-shaped body and broad everted rim; the rim with red rings to the interior and a band of radiating strokes to the underside of the exterior; the body with palmettes below the loop handles, figural decoration comprising: Side A - a nude male advancing with mantle to the shoulders, with handled vessel in the left hand, dish in the right hand, objects in the field; Side B - a seated lady of fashion with hair piled in a bun, wreath in the left hand and casket held up in the right hand, objects in the field.

PROVENANCE:
From the estate of a North Country collector, acquired over a 30 year period from the early 1970s.
