GREEK CAMPANIAN RED-FIGURE BELL KRATER
5TH-3RD CENTURY BC
13" (3.9 kg, 32.8cm).

A ceramic bell krater with pedestal base, bell-shaped body and broad everted rim; the rim with red ring to the interior and a band of vineleaves to the underside of the exterior; the body with two figural scenes separated by painted palmettes beneath the handles: Side A depicting a scene of revelry associated with the cult of Dionysus, a nude bearded male plucking at the robe of a female, with a second female behind him preparing to disrobe, a second nude bearded male to the right carrying a staff advancing towards a robed female with a distaff (?); Side B depicting a winged Nike addressing a draped male facing her, a second male behind her.
