(Bronze, 630 grams, 15 cm.).
Circa 1300-900 BC. An important cast bronze diorama of a chariot and two horses (biga) on a rectangular base; the horses in stationary pose with yoke and halters; the yoke attached to a round-section pole attached to the axle-tree of the chariot behind; the chariot formed as a saddle block with three rings to the front and reins looped over the forward beak to the driver's hands; the driver in knee-length coat, seated on the saddle block, his legs extending to the axle-tree, bearded and bare-headed.
PROVENANCE:
Property of a Lady; ex Klara Scott of Willesden, UK; acquired in the 1960's on the London art market.
