English Medieval - 'Sterling' and 'Bird' Jetons > Lot No. 229

Description:
C. 13th century AD. 2 Jetons. Sterling type of Edward II/III period. Obv: facing bust with small rosettes in place of legend. Rev: shield or arms (3 leopards/lions) within trilobe with trefoil of pellets in each outer angle. WITH: Bird type. Obv: bird with large pellets in place of legend. Rev: short cross moline with two pellets in each angle with pellets inplace of legend. Both jetons having usual depression at centre of flans (on reverses). Scarce.

Measurements:
0.86 and 0.52 grams.

Condition:
The first near fine; the second good fine but chipped.
