ROMAN FINE AND IMPORTANT BRONZE STATUETTE OF VENUS
3RD CENTURY AD
11 3/4" (875 grams, 27 cm).

A superbly modelled solid cast, large standing figure of Venus with columnar base; the goddess depicted nude, with a slender physique, standing with her weight on her left leg; her hair arranged in an elaborate topknot, similar to that of the Capitoline Venus, with tresses falling past her shoulders; holding and looking into a (separately cast) circular mirror held in her right hand; a pomegranate in her left hand.

PROVENANCE:
Ex European collection and London collections (1967), accompanied by three documents attesting to ownership.
