1360-1364 AD. Obv: knight riding left with sword and IOHANNES DEI GRACIA FRANCORV REX legend. Rev: cross in quatrefoil with + XP'C VINCIT XP'C REGNAT XP'C INPERAT legend.
Measurements:
3.74 grams.
Condition:
Very fine, a little weak at centre of obverse, scarce.

Comments notes:
The franc a cheval was ordered issued on December 5, 1360 to finance the ransom of King John II Le Bon, who had been taken prisoner by the English at the Battle of Poitiers in 1356. It was the first ever 'franc' coin issued in France.
