LOT 0985

Sold for (Inc. bp): £6,534

POST MEDIEVAL GOLD AND DIAMOND FINGER RING
16TH-17TH CENTURY AD
1" (12 grams, 27mm overall, 16.01mm internal diameter (approximate size British K, USA 5 1/4, Europe 10.27, Japan 10)).

An ornate hoop with segmented inner face, scrolls and inset facetted diamonds to the shoulders, box bezel with inset facetted diamonds to four vertical faces and a large table-cut diamond to the upper face.

PROVENANCE:
Property of a Hertfordshire gentleman; an old family heirloom, acquired by descent.

FOOTNOTES:
The large central stone is a good example of an early table cut: the point of the natural octahedral diamond crystal was cut down to form the flat table, and the reamining natural faces were polished. The central stone is estimated to weigh just under 3/4 carat, has a slight blueish tinge, and is of generally good clarity.
