ROMAN MARBLE HEAD
(Marble, 2.4 kg, 145 mm.).

Circa 2nd century AD. A marble bust probably representing the Emperor Hadrian (76-138 AD) with tightly curled hair, broad brow, narrow nose and clipped beard; the carving robust and detailed.

PROVENANCE:
Property of a Gentleman.

FOOTNOTES:
Hadrian (Publius Aelius Hadrianus) was one of the Five Good Emperors, with a strong affinity with the military and love of Hellenic culture.
