Description:
Circa 3rd century AD. A solid cast figure of a bull with horns, shoulder hump and dewlap; well modelled, standing on an integral rectangular base with corner feet.

Measurements:
48mm tall.

Condition:
Very fine.

Provenance:
Old English collection.

Comments notes:
The worship of Mithras was one of the official religions of the Later Roman period, especially popular with the army; its central rite was the despatch of a bull, which figures in Mithraic iconography.
